Direct X and .Vst Integration

Posted 11 January 2017 - 03:55 PM

Hi all, this is kind-of just a brainstorming type of topic; and I'm looking for resource suggestions and perhaps reading material/videos and any informational material about the process and topics regarding C++ coding for Direct X and .Vst plugins. If anyone has any experience with Direct X OR Vst programming your input is also very much appreciated here. I'm starting to prepare for a project where I will be making a Vst plugin (audio workstation plugin) in C++ that will turn sounds into visuals. It's going to be a type of synthesizer for visuals based on audio waves. I'm going to start out small, just taking an audio signal from the soundcard and changing colors based on the frequencies present in the signal. I will provide more details and also anyone who might be interested in helping in this open-source project should respond as-well.

Thanks and have a good one!

I would look at any of the old winamp plugin tutorials still out there.. Wealth of knowledge to be mined.

Interesting idea, I wonder if I should just make a plugin FOR winamp? Are Winamp plugins VST? It's been sooo long since I used winamp,,, I can't remember what file format the plugins are in.

Winamp closed up shop a while back, but the info is sound if to give you a rough template on how it all should shake down.

I searched "vst winamp plugin tutorial" and got quite a few good responses on sites.

I guess I should have asked, does anyone know if it's even possible to integrate the two? I was just reading a topic on stack and they were saying it could be one or the other... I'm pretty sure you could integrate the two but anyone want to weigh in on this? I suppose I should have expected a lack of interest lol as this is pretty obscure and complicated.

I have made a functional Vst plugin using an audio plugin kit and VS C++ 2015... it doesn't do much but it'll load as a VST and change the gain. What I'm really wondering is if it's possible to integrate vst and DirectX at all?

Again - I just did a cursory search for "dirextx and VST tutorial" and came back with a volume of information that would affirm you can.

Yeah I did a search on it too, saw some conflicting information. I guess I'll Google it from here
