Just Started Learning To Code

Posted 14 March 2017 - 08:37 AM

Hi Guys and Girls,

I have always loved games and always wished I could make my own. I just recently made the big leap signed up for a course with Polygon College to learn to create games.

If anyone has any advice for someone just starting out that would be great!!!

I will let everyone know how stuff goes, but fingers crossed!!

I haven't heard of Polygon College. What's the curriculum looking to be?

Good luck with that.

Congrats.

Don't get ahead of yourself. Pay attention and learn the fundamentals. Learn as much as you can out of school to support what you are learning in school. Be patient, this isn't an easy subject and it doesn't 'click' for a lot of people right off the bat.

Thanks for the welcome,

Modi I'm just getting started but the curriculum looks good, got lots of options which is really nice. I'm doing Unity at the minute.

Astonecipher Thanks for the advice, I'm definitively going to get as much as I can and I get the fundamentals are import.

Thanks again everyone! Really pumped for learning this stuff

Become familiar with the C fundamentals, and the OpenGL loop will be easier to follow. Try and brush up on matrix transformations before hand so you can understand the GL pipeline.

Don't fall for the preconception that 'making games' will be any different to other programming. learn how to program then approach the game element.

Good luck

Likely because it's in Kathmandu, Nepal, & you are not.
