Not Code specifically

Posted 24 March 2017 - 02:36 PM

On a programming group, someone asking about Big-O-Notation, and not realizing this is what they were after, was helped by someone.

Their question:

Quote

comparing efficiency between heap sort and any other sort in both small and large arrays

This was the persons response:

Efficiency is in memory, something you don't worry about much in c++, but 60k variables all over the place vs one to do everything all in one spot. Access speed and memory management can make a huge overall performance difference

What is sad is that I hear similar stuff coming from "Enterprise Architects" at my current place of employment. As amusing as it is to corner them have them think about what they are spewing out, it also feels futile because it would be a great way to burn bridges. They obviously knew how to play the politics games because if they actually wrote code like they were talking, things would be hopelessly unmaintainable assuming that it even worked.
