c++ gui development

sorry for the really stupid question but i can't find a definitive answer any ware im wonder how a gui is made in c++ is it a matter of just putting a header in the source code and going from there or are there separate programs apart from the compiler to do it iv heard things like gtk+ and qt what are these exactly and what is the way professional make them and what is the most popular way to do it thanks

That is a bit of a complex question. there are several toolkits for building GUI applications, including Win32, MFC, GTK, QT, and others. Some are specific to certain platforms, some are not. I'm not sure what you mean by the 'professional' way to make them - each of those methods has been used to create commercial quality products. Here are some links to get you started:

I've always used the Windows API for making GUI applications.

This approach allows me to create custom applications, with detail to the programs activity, yet allow the Windows Operating System to control functionality between my program & the OS.

i had the same question as you. seeing as i dont have windows at home i used gtkmm (c++ extension of gtk). it is both free and works on windows and linux.
