Android Studio or Eclipse

Posted 04 April 2017 - 11:02 AM

Hello!
I want to develop android apps. I know that the official IDE for Android development is Android Studio, but it has a huge size. Has Eclipse less abilities than Android Studio?

Both are fine.

You certainly can find quite a bit of comparison over the years by searching "android studio vs eclipse".

Or Visual Studio using Xamarin. You can either do native android with Xamarin.Android... Or a cross-platform app where the same C#/XAML/MVVM code base would run on Droid, iOS, UWP and Tizen.

Personally for the extra 15% work to do it in Xamarin.Forms you get all the additional platforms to sell to - No brainer in my book. Plus you get to use a VERY well established IDE in Visual Studio etc.

Google stopped supporting Eclipse. Android Studio is much more robust. You can use Intellij IDE too.

Developing project in Eclipse is not good practice. If you want to make a good application then must go with Android Studio.
