book series question: headfirst vs big nerd ranch

Posted 22 April 2017 - 05:43 PM

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has experience with either the headfirst or big nerd ranch book series. ive just finished a uni course on java and my plan was to try to apply what ive learned to android development. I was going to pick up a book to work through and have heard good things about both of these. Does anyone have any insight?

I've always hated the HeadFirst school of graphic design - I like clean design that tells me what I need, not a lot of clutter and noise. But if you like the spasmodic style, then maybe it's the right thing for you. Don't know anything about the "nerd ranch" books.

If you have some basic java skills, I would suggest you try the official tutorials first. That way, you can have some understanding of what questions you're trying to answer, which will help you in evaluating books. (if you still need a book after the tutorial)
