Help with floating point

Hello everyone,I'm not sure that is appropriate here,but I don't realize why the answer is (A)?

I caculated it and my answer always is 0 10000110 01000111010000000000000

1. You could always write a test program to initialise two floats with those bit patterns and observe the result.

Did you remember the implied leading '1' bit of the significant when normalising the value of X to match the exponent of Y in order to perform the addition?
