How to trap a thief in a super-market using automated billing system?

Posted 11 May 2017 - 04:20 AM

The idea is to create an automated supermarket billing system. My mobile App will deduct amount from customers bank account when they pick a product and scan its QR code but at the exit of my shop I will validate customer billing information which will be send through Wi-Fi from my App. The issue is How Am I supposed to corner the one who hasn't authenticated billing information or provided the incorrect billing info.

Oh there are plenty of ways.. lasers, cattle chutes, a very elaborate 'Mousetrap'-esque game setup but in real life, a gate, armed guards, etc.

I always use a trap door, myself. It's clean, quick, and produces a minimal amount of disruption for your other customers. There's a bit of installation cost, but if you're in it for the long haul it's really the only way.

I feel the past years of being a dungeon master has prepared me for this!

> when they pick a product and scan its QR code

You do know that retail products don't have QR codes... Right?
Is it your intent to remake the entire retail industry change their packaging to match your app?

Have you considered that people can just put things in the cart and NOT scan them?
Or scan the $1 loaf of bread while putting the $5 loaf in the cart.

I would suggest you approach this from WITHIN having worked retail for a while. Maybe take a job as a plain clothed "loss prevention officer" at Target. A year of that will show you more ways people cheat than you could have ever imagined.

But looking at an industry that you aren't intimately familiar with - from the outside - always makes everything seem much easier. Being a grocery shopper does not make you qualified to be a security specialist in the grocery industry.
