The most interesting think for me is webservices so which platform should I choose?

Gosh, your question keeps changing. Is this the question you are asking? Even then, do you mean which is the better for building, or for using, a webservice? It makes no difference in either case. There would need to be other factors involved to determine whether it is worth one's while to build, or use, a webservice starting from either language.

You really must make clear what you are actually asking.

.NET can be used in ASP.NET and what not.. so there is an option, or wrote desktop apps, wpf apps, processing apps, xamarin apps, etc. Java can be similar or work with html in servlets or what not..

hells bells I can write websites in assembly if I wanted to.

The world's a funny place.

Having to use HTML and CSS or not will depend on what you're building, not the language you're using. If you're building a traditional web application with a front end, then of course you'll need those technologies. If you're writing web services, you won't.

As far as languages go, personally I'd work in Kotlin as I've been meaning to try it seriously for some time. As people here have told you, both C# and Java are suitable for web applications, services and "large" projects. So are many other languages. Why are you seemingly reluctant to just try one and see how it goes? It's not like you'd be wasting any time - you'd at least learn something about, say, web services and some of those things would likely be transferable to other languages. If you find out you didn't like working with a particular language, that's useful knowledge too.

Both have a wealth of documentation, and - for me - about the same learning time curve.

Job boards fluctuate region to region and city to city. .NET and Java typically come up quite a bit. You can see that as well as other folk.

I haven't seen a study on "young" folk and their language of choice. Probably which ever best spins their spinners.

I swear cracking one of those "learn X language in 27 hours" books in both languages could have been done by now..

If your question wasn't such a moving target you would most likely have received more directed responses by now.

Have you checked any job posting boards? Jobs vary from region, city, industry, etc.
