why my .desktop file cant open wine app?

Posted 11 July 2017 - 01:00 PM

Hello guys, i am having an issue. I want to create launcher in my panel to open .exe file with wine.

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Name=TEst
Exec=gnome-terminal -e "wine /home/test123/myapp.exe"
Terminal=false

but what happened is that just my terminal blinks and thats all. When try to put command in terminal
wine /home/test123/myapp.exe
then it is opening application. Where is a problem?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

can you capture any logs with the following :

wine /home/test123/myapp.exe > wine.error.log

Is there anything relevant in the output from dmesg or logged in /var/log/messages?

Sorry, I'm not that familiar with wine.

All those environment variables you take for granted in you console aren't always available from a new terminal launched in a different way. I'm not sure why you're using gnome-terminal at all: I never found that necessary with wine.

Try Exec=gnome-terminal -e "env > env_test_dump.txt" and compare it your regular console env.

Further, make a script to start your application with wine, rather than launching it directly. An Exec= is nice for a simple executable, but if it any kind of setup is required a script is usually easier.

Hope this helps.
