I am doing a reasearch on Software Development

Posted 22 July 2017 - 01:08 AM

Hi! I am new to this forum.

And I am a University student. I am now doing a research about how project management can raise the success of a software project.

I tried to email some companies to see if they will help me to fill this out, :sad3:

But I think the forum will have some people that are willing to help.

Might I ask if you can help me to fill out this survey?

I will be appreciate if you can help me.

It is about 19 questions to answer. And this is targets to a software developer who works with project management.

Appreciate again. Thank you very much!

Question 17 says select 3 but one can only select 1 ;)

Your questionnaire seems a little outdated to me. It seems to refer to old style project management: waterfall, MS Project (GANTT charts) etc. Most organisations are Agile to a greater or lesser extent. Are you including Agile under the umbrella of project management? If people only have daily stand-ups would you consider that as project management?

I suppose it might help to describe what would not be considered under project management. [Frequent unexpected changes to requirements, sudden involvement of a 3rd party, cancellation of projects half-way through :rolleyes2: ]

Almost all your questions seem to be directed towards project managers rather than software developers as you said in your original post.

My only question is my perennial one - will you come back and share your results?

From the software developers point of view, the best thing project management can do to contribute to the success of a project is to get ALL details from the client/product owner, write clear concise requirements, ASK and LISTEN to developers for REALISTIC estimates, set priorities, NOT CHANGE the requirements or priorities mid-stream, NOT ASK for status reports, and learn to use JIRA (or whatever tool is being used to track bugs, stories, tasks, etc.).
