Laser Etching On Cd-rs

Posted 26 June 2002 - 08:11 AM

Last month Yamaha released it's CRW-F1 onto the Japanese market. The CD Burner is unique in the fact that it uses a technology Yamaha calls DiscT@2TM. The technology allows the laser to burn text, images, logos, and such onto the unused space left over after burning.

The drive will be available in the U.S. July 15th.

Pretty interesting IMO. Would be a nice little thing to play with.

i think its cool for some uses , like if you were a business or something , but for the home user , pointless , if you were to put your logo on the back of a cd-r , wouldnt the cd saying " cd-r " look improfessional anyways ? im sure business have had this technoligy for a whyle anyways , so yes , pointless for the average joe ... :alien:

hey, i resemble that remark (actually, it's the only local machine, as far as i know).

anyway, the only thing i could think better than this would be....

burning the info inside the logo/text! that would be *SO* sweet (give a cd-r portfolio out w/your logo/name alone burned into the disc, complete w/data....

sure there'd be a ton of gotos, but it is all still (form.) over (function)...

even with what they've shown, it is cool. I hate having to write out X^5++ names onto a CD after burning ware^H^H^H^....<carrier lost>
