Hi,

Ok, two scenarios come in play:
-There's a virus at play. Likely, but not productive...
- Someone has set a password, that amounts to a sick but likely joke.

Tips. Is there someone else with access to the PC? What OS are you running? Likely this seems Linux. If so, you're in trouble...
How does Linux boot up? First in text mode (dos mode to the windows users) and then it "clicks" over to graphical mode, that would explain the black" screen...

If it is Linux, and you've got the root password (all lower caps) then you're OK, log in, and kick any unnedded accounts off the system///

Luck!

If it's Windows, what version of Windows is it? Does the user have admin rights?

If it's Linux, try hitting cntl + Alt + Backspace, that should take it out of Xwindows & back to a command prompt.

Well i it is a windows account, you can start it in safe mode and just log on as the admin, not the account he has, there should be an account named admin premade. On this account, go to run in the start menu and type in control userpasswords2 and just reset the password of the account he wants access to from there. If that doesnt work, try to get a live CD and turn on the computer. Run a virus scan while on the live CD and it will check windows. This can fix a lot of things. You can even access your files on the hard drive and put them onto a DVD or an external harddrive.

Well you could get a copy of ubuntu and just pop the disc into the CD drive, go to BIOS. while there, look for something that says boot menu or boot from and select the CD drive. I am not a master with Live CDs, so if anyone has any further instructions about easier ways to make a live CD, please feel free to inject your opinion.

Sounds like it could be the password that is set from in the BIOS. You would have to contact the BIOS manufacturer to get information on how to reset the password, if that is the problem.
