Interest in old skool M.U.D. (multi-user dungeon)

Posted 09 January 2018 - 11:17 AM

So the days of playing on multi-user dungeons in a completely text based role playing game are long gone and almost all but forgotten. However, being one of the nostalgic sorts of geeky critter it has occasionally come into my mind to start up on working out a modernized version of what we old timers remember as a classic. My general thought is to use modern Python 3 to create a text based role play adventure and at this point I am literally throwing the idea out there among this set of peers to see if any intrigue whatsoever is piqued. Obviously, the thing would be pointless to build if only for myself. If that is how it's going to be I would create it to be a D.U.D (Dave-user dungeon).... This idea seems valid to me based upon the fact that so many nostalgic video games from the original NES and Sega seem to be so popular with a younger user base despite the far superior graphics available in modern games. I'm simply asking here.

Nonetheless, if I do find interest I will in the near future create a repository and start throwing together some bits and snippets here for critique. Happy Journeys everyone.

Not to the slowly growing BBS/Vintage Computer groups. More & more people coming out of retirement, making new door games, setting up vintage MUDs.

Never cared for them.

Aren't "mafia/vampire/gangster wars" the modern day incarnation?

I enjoined dungeons, but i never like text based one. There was some similar tries web-based, now some games, open world using dungeon as a place where players are spending more time then outsite, like ESO or Tera. Today kids enjoin more graphics intense gaming, then reading anything. They dont know what is a good story. So dont expect young kinds to play it, only fans and older ones who wanna refresh their good old days.
My favorite was Grandia from Sega Saturn, now 20 years old, forgotten, but still popular today (was released for PS1 with bad quality and bad voice acting, PSP, and even around 2010 released for PS3), really way too complex console, so im planing to contact Game Arts one day to get all resources i can possibly get, to make same game with story put before time, before and between original. With all this resources and 2.5D graphic, shouldnt take long as before.
So yeah, good luck to you too.
