What do you wish you knew as a beginner?

Posted 31 January 2018 - 06:12 PM

Hi. I've recently started learning Java as my first programming language which may or may not be a good choice, but I could always use a challenge. What is the desired time for me to get the hang of the language and have most things memorized to code, without interruption of not remembering how something is formatted, what it does, etc? (How long did it take for you?) Also, what did you wish you knew as a beginner that you know now that could have made your life significantly easier? Does anyone know a good YouTuber that teaches java swing/gui? (For future reference). I've got 5 years on my hands before I go to college and I want to atleast know Java and C++ or Java and C# by then. Even some mild suggestions for beginners would help. If anyone has some references that may be able to help me, post those also. Thanks
