Well yeah.. that's why you save the user input into variables. The GUI, in this case the console, just shows what you have tucked away in memory.

You could take time to learn how to use the Windows Console APIs, but that will distract you from the primary goal at this point of your learning career which is to learn the language, not the OS.

Consider that the original chess and Othello games on various dumb terminals didn't actually use any of the dumb terminal ANSI Escape codes to move the cursor. Instead they just printed out the new state of the board and asked the user for their next move. Why? Because some of the players were not using dumb green screen terminals, but actual teletype machines -- no way to reverse the feed of the paper.
