How to Learn Computer Programming

Posted 31 January 2008 - 11:58 PM

Heck, why did any of us go the long hard route of picking up knowledge of programming through school, books large enough to be door stops, or do some kind of hard work?

I found this site that claims learning to program is as easy as 1....2....3! All you have to do is pay $90 dollars and you will land that 75k entry level job!

If you are not earning a minimum of $70,000 per year with recruiters calling you about new job openings or you are bored and fed up with your current career, what stops you from considering a career in software development?

Classic.

I pitty the idiot that goes out and buys scams like these (well, it may well be not a scam, but it seems untrustworthy anywhom).

Nice.

Unfortunately, these guys are just the bottom feeders, going after the minimum wage crowd. The real polished charletons pitch $20,000 courses to middle managment, convincing them their current terminal operator will be magically trasformed into a computer genius that can solve all their woes.

It's a joke, they probably hand you a sheet of paper with the same things you'd learn in a SUPER-Beginners class. I mean noob stuff like "Hello World" which is a good starting point for all new programmers.

Wow and I thought after all these years of reading and listening to lectures that this was the only way. I wonder if my school will refund my tuition?

The course I started out on sucked even thought it was government approved. They gave you a big set of print outs on C++ that you had to read and do the exercises and hope you'd taught yourself properly.

I love how great that site looks. Like seriously I hardly know web development and could make a site that looks about 30x Better

Funny thing is that I have seen the same people create almost another 10 - 20 sites that look exactly the same all related to learning technology with this "simple method". Just adds even less credibility to how effective the program is. Lamers I tell you.

I am thinking of starting a website where I can teach the basics of Microsoft Office products and then award them the ready to take the MOUS certification. Ill charge 100.00 and when I am done they will have all the essential skills of a true data entry technician.

Sad thing is I was told the MOUS Certification class was a requirement to my degree. I dont see how using MS word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint make me a programmer but whatever lol.

And to think I spent almost $100,000 on my education to become an expert programmer, where were these people when I really needed them. Maybe they can start a site teaching how to git rid of student loan debt just as easy! LOL

I think we all real programmers learned programming the hard way, by spending countless hours in front of computer and a fat programming book! anyone agree with me?
