Google Summer of Code, our program to introduce students to open source software development is coming back. I have seen summer of code before, but can't remember if the projects can be submitted by a team or if they are looking for individuals. I think it would be kick ass if DIC could get a team together to work on something... maybe throw the 4500 dollars into on board prizes or something as well as pushing the DIC name out there.

Anyone know if you can do a project with your own hand picked team?

Doh! I found that groups can't work on a project. BUT... DIC could be a mentoring organization and propose the project. So Chris might want to think about sponsoring a project. After all, as a group could also decide on the project, the specs, and which student proposal will be accepted.

Do you have to be a university student or any kind of student? Can you participate in any country? Do you have to be over a certain age to enter? I think thats all of my concerns. It should be called google winter of code over here seeing as summer has already been and gone.
