XM vs Sirius Radio

Posted 07 March 2008 - 12:53 PM

Hey Guys,

Looking to get one of these two satellite radio subscriptions.

I've done comparisons on the stations available and and pretty content with what both offers.

My questions too anyone of you who have one of these or any experience is:

1. What is the quality of the broadcasts? Does it ever not get signal?
2. What is a good receiver for it?

I am mainly getting this for use at work, but i would like to be able to put it in my car as well.

I noticed that there are a couple different versions of a walk-man/ipod like design. (Helix is one i believe) I am leaning more towards this version of the recievers.

So if anyone has any experience with these and which ones are good i would appreciate any suggestions or advice that you have for me.

Thank you in advance!

i have xm.
skyfi.
if you do it:

first off search google and get 3 months free like i did.
promotion code or somewhat,
then tell them your gonna drop the service before the 3 months and get 3 months at 4.99 per months. like i just did.

xm has commercials now, which i don't understand.
i'm not entirely happy with it, and plan on giving it up after my next 3 months are up, not worth all that money imo... but at the same time it doesn't get used all the time, and i haven't taken the chance to get to know the stations, i just have a few favorited.

thats my review of xm.

I have used both. I originally went with Sirius with an external unit, and got XM because it came with my new car. I think XM has slightly better music channels, but Sirius has much better talk stations (Howard Stern and Maxim were my favorites). Both have commercials for their talk channels, but, unless it recently changed, the music channels were commercial free.

Thats a good idea I will have to see if I can hunt down a free code. I think i will probably end up getting XM.

What would you suggest for a reciever, i kinda like this Helix thing.

I have had Sirius for almost 4 years now and I love it. I'd say in terms of music selection they are about equal but Sirius is still commercial free.

As for my March 7th post. Supreme court approved the merger between XM and Sirius.

Looks like wether you want to or not, you are using Sirius.

I had a similiar reception problem with my old workplace. Now I podcast everything. If you are just looking to listen to baseball. You can subscribe through MLB.com and listen to it live streaming
