What Do You Use For Stats/Analytics?

Post icon  Posted 12 March 2008 - 06:30 AM

I've used a lot of stats packages over the years including Webalizer, AWStats, Urchin, and now Google Analytics, but I'm wondering what everyone else is using?

I saw a new product (new to me) yesterday that looked pretty slick, here's a demo: http://www.designologue.com/mint/

Any other recommendations?

I use Google as none of the hosts I've used on shared servers will track visitors location. I like to know where my 3 visitors a month come from ;)

For the most part I use www.statcounter.com for heavier traffic sites you can upgrade to a paid version, but I mainly use the free version and it works great.

Google Analytics of course is another option, but I never felt the need to use it.

@Nykc - That looks really cool, and I have a very-soon-to-be-live site that it could be perfect for. If you wouldn't mind a couple of questions:

What do you call heavy traffic?
How long does it take to show results once it's installed?

Thanks!

I use Google Analytics... but I wish they would give me an option to find out who that one damned IP is that sits on my site for 20 minutes at a time 3 times a day but never calls me for a flippin' job!

But given how much I dislike Google, I really should start shopping around for a different stat package. Anyone know of one that would allow me to stalk my stalker? :P

I really like awstats, although I've tried out Google Analytics before - I just find that for what I need, awstats has all the information I want on one page.

@thehat - anything over 1,500,000 page loads a month will require a paid subscription to statcounter however it only logs the details for the latest 1500 users at the first level. You can increase for your needs. I was always content with the 500 visitors which is now up to 500 in the free version. The paid version offers the same features just logs alot more data depending on your individual needs. But all in all it is very affordable.

Cool, thanks. I don't think I want to introduce a new cost to the client 2 days before launch so I'll leave them on Google this time round, but I'm definitely going to sign up and track my blog. Viewing your visitors on Google Maps has sold it to me :)

Even though it is no longer in development, I use Webalizer. I just wish that I would have researched it a little bit more before I started, so that I could have used some of the 3rd party versions, with add-ons.

That would be me... I figured since you are BenignDesign that I would sit on your design and be... well... benign. You can think of me as that cancer that sits on your HTML. hahaha jk :D

I use statcounter

All you do is get a free account grab the snippet of code they give you, then plug it into your html page.

Works great!!!

I've looked at mint before. I'm on Analytics, pretty happy with it.

I just started using this not long ago and enjoy it. I find it better than google and Webalizer

Google Analytics. I looove Google Analytics.

I also love that some local competitors around here use other free statistics services that allow the public to look at the information. GREAT FOR SPYING ON THEM!
