I have been using GoldWave for a couple of years now. It seems to do everything I need, which is just to make loops and clean up stuff. Maybe a little splice and dice. I have had the same demo for the whole time too. Cool that. It has an easy interface ( if I can use it, anyone can). And if you decide to buy it, it's cheap.

Whoa, GoldWave. I used to use that program religiously since they had the first beta I think... until I converted to SoundForge. If you want a good program for editing and mixing video/audio, try Adobe Premiere. I know... it's fancy, but if you can get it, it does the job.

CoolEdit Pro2, easy to use with plenty of extra features, if i remember right you can order a 30-day trial cd off the site atm too!
Edit: Dont think the CD offer is running anymore, the site is here anyway though . http://www.syntrillium.com/cep/
