WWDC : All the pandemonium right here
Posted 09 June 2008 - 11:34 AM
The fact that there are certain dates every year where people start lining up outside apple stores not even sure if a new product is coming out, but standing in line, cueing up for a new product, that they don't even know the specs on is downright amazing.
Apple has built itself THE brand of all brands and in no other place is it on display better than WWDC.
Every gadget website on the web has live coverage,
I especially love how apple has to prepare for it by taking all their online shops down worldwide, and then everyone on the planet knows why those sites are down.
How MSNBC devotes half a day of financial coverage to APPLE and all of that jazz.
It really is spectacular. So, fill this thread with your rants, reviews and what have you about WWDC.
First up :
The death of .mac and replacement with Mobile Me. .mac was a good idea horribly horribly executed, a very rare misfire for apple so it should be interesting to see if this works out much better, I assume it will, and hopefully be a nice addition to the mac users' catalog of useful things.

And, if the iPhone 3g weren't AT&T locked, I'd get one... But I loves me my T-Mobile too much.

one negative for apple,
so much built up pressure for them and thought going into what they announce, they cant really exceed expectations.
the ipod was probably the last one, because the engadgets and gizmodos weren't nearly as developed, where now its big business thinking what apple might have up its sleeve....
so the fact the new iphone doesn't have a front-facing camera for video conferencing is a downer for many, even though most of the info coming from cupertino said that it wasn't.... it was still being perused as a possible 'and one more thing .... ' by steve jobs...

My IPod has got to be the best device I have, next to my computer of course. There's not a day that goes b when I don't listen to it, Especially on the way to and from school (30 + minute drive).

however, the only thing new is the 3g, everything else could be done by an original iphone.

I embrace those products, apple just has the ability to tie everything together... which is their big advantage.

And max302... It's unlikely. Apple *may* sell an unlocked iPhone if they sign a deal w/ T-Mobile (the only other GSM carrier in the US.... Well.... That's worth mentioning), but as long as they still have a deal with AT&T to sell them only the iPhone (which, as the article I linked to shows, may be ending....), I doubt they'll be factory unlocked. Although, if they start selling it to T-Mobile as well, then that could mean that the T-Mobile and AT&T locked versions aold at the T-Mobile and AT&T stores could cost half as much as the fully unlocked version available at Apple stores. Carriers do subsidise phones to sell them.... They make their money back on exorbitant data charges. (Although I have unlimited data transfer on my T-Mobile plan for $6.99).
So.... We'll see. If they do start selling to T-Mobile, I may well have to buy one. Although I am digging a BlackBerry Curve 8320....

Not to say they don't have decent products, but for every one of their overhyped iphones, ipods etc, there are competitors with superior products usually at much lower prices. I'm not willing to spend an extra $300 for a shiny ui on my phone, and so I can pretend like I'm that 'cool' guy in the ads.
