I think a tutorial showing basic cryptography, encryption and decryption. It could be something where you have an interface to enter your message and an interface that decrypts the message. You could send it to a friend and would be pretty neat plus give a basic intro to the topic. I was going through a book the other night that had a super basic example. It converted a "string" to their ascii values and then took the ascii values and converted it back to "strings." Maybe something along those lines or more advanced with some math?

Unless someone has already done a tutorial on encryption, I'm doing an implementation of a secure Instant Messenger in perl for a class using openSSL. When it's done in May, I could fairly easily create a simple tutorial.

So, did you happen to finish that Secure IM in Perl? I would be very interested in seeing it if you did.

Regards,

Jeff

Yeah, give me a few days to a week to tidy up the code and I'll post it.

Quite a few requests for GUI programming - can I go one further and request a TKinter tutorial (as it's included in the package after all!)? Some of it is straight forward, but I get lost in some of the structure (simple stuff like object names for attribute passing)

There is this website, which is great in a lot of ways, but I don't feel that I'm 100% there with understanding, if you know what I mean!

There is one by John Shipman from University of New Mexico. That and others are here: http://wiki.python.org/moin/TkInter

In the process of researching GUI programming in Python I see PyQt is fairly popular. So maybe instead of TKinter a tutorial over PyQt4.

I'm working on an encryption and decryption program for the RSA scheme.
I can PM it to you if you want.

You might consider submitting it as a tutorial or snippet instead. That way, everyone can benefit from it. :)

If you want to sumbit it as a snippet, then yes. After you post it a mod will review it. If you wanted to explain how you did it, then post it in the tutorials section.
