My New Computer

Posted 13 March 2002 - 05:14 AM

Hey, just picked up some stuff hella cheap. Just sharing.  I got....  barebonez 450 mhz amd, 3D Blaster Banshee video card, and SoundBlaster Live card for 贄.  I've got a six foot tall rack unit in my room with built in moniter(trashy may I add) and for 贄, I'm thinking it's all good.  I'm just using a 3.5 gig harddrive till I can afford better(our old computer is my parents)

That is pretty cool.  But next time you buy stuff, check out ebay.  They have a lot of cheap computer parts.  At least that is what i have heard from a freind of mine that rebuidls his computer every 6 months.

Ha, ebay...  I've purchases a few things from there, but I don't trust anyone i don't know with computer parts.  For all I know, they could've pissed on it and the pins are rusted on the processor.  I've only been ripped off once there(and it was only ฟ), but I will never buy computer parts from there.  Just a suggestion, but for new stuff, www.pricewatch.com  They got some REALLY cheap freakn stuff. And if you have staples(Store) near you, print off HTML from Price Watch and Staples will match the prices.  I just don't got the money right now to buy some new stuff.

Hmmmm...  if you can print out HTML and take it to them... What would keep them from taking HTML that has been slightly edited on your computer before printing?? :)

:::away, evil thoughts!:::

Very clever, we've used that method a couple of times, but you have to make sure you edit the price reasonably, so they don't find out... :-)

How did you pull that one off?

I forgot to mention I got a Power monitor/Battery backup and 3 dvd-rw's out of the deal too!

How?
Best buy and their magicaly great warranty!

It all started one day when I couldnt spend more than 10sec on the internet w/o getting kicked off.  It wasn't the phone line or the isp.  It was the comp.  And I couldn't fix it. So I took it to best buy to get it repaired as it was still under warranty

Me: "Fix my computer, It doesn't work right"
Clerk: "Uh, yeeaahh, were gunna hafta send it to our service depot in Minnesota and it wont come back for 2-4 weeks."
*trembles at the thought of going analog for 2-4 weeks*
Manager: "OR! lemme see here, you could upgrade your warranty for 50 dollars, and If we can't fix it here, today, I can set you up with a new one"
Me: "I can work with that :biggrin:"
*manager takes one look at HP comp*
Manager: "We'll set you up with a new one!"
*he looks at warranty*
Manager:"Your computer was 񘖬, so we can give you 񘖬 towards a new one"
Me: "I'll do it!"

later...
Manager: "Here's the best one currently in the store, 1.8Ghz P4, 512 DDR, DVD+RAM, FireWire, etc., 񘒀"
Me: "Cool, very cool"
Manager: "Was your last computer power protected with UPS?"
Me: "No sirrah"
Manager: "Then you want one of these"
*gives me a 贘 UPS battery backup*
Manager: "And you have about 贎 left, how about this 3 pack of DVD+RWs"
Me: "Ok, what about all by old files?"
Manager: "we'll burn them all on some cd-r's and have them ready for you here in a day or two"
Me: "Awesome! Thanks for the deal, see ya later!"

I made out of there like a bank robber!  Everything was paid for by the 񘖬 from the dead comp, and he even reduced some prices to fit it all in for me! :biggrin:

Oh yea, and the cd's took ~week because my old pc had a 4x burner and there were 16 cd's :biggrin:

hehehehehehehe :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
