A Small Question

Posted 14 October 2002 - 11:14 AM

just wondering, if you would care to divulge your secrets ;)

is the site based on hacks of invision board, or was invision board incorporated into the site?

and did you do the whole thing (apart from the board code) yourself? or is the source available somewhere?

I really like the menu system at the top, and I know it's available as a hack for some boards, but I wasn't sure about invision, or about whether it was a hack you wrote yourselves or not.

I'm helping a friend make a site, and he wanted something similar in style to this. Help would be nice :)

I was also thinking I could use something along the lines of phpnuke... I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying that, but suggestions of a good one (if it exists ;)) would be nice too.

Thanks in advance.

was originally built as a site with a board.
when ibf came out it was still a site with a board but the board is now plugged into a lot more stuff. (tutorials, articles, resources)

alot of it is hacks and alot of it is sky and super coding all night
sky did the resources section for example from scratch
super did a major overhaul to get the turoials/articles sections working through an ib hack

couldn't of said it better myself.

the menu at the top, is javascript built with selteco like fyrestorm said. but with a little php and html magic. the whole site links to the very same file, so we change it once, the whole site changes. its like that with a lot of the site. change one thing, the rest changes. :) takes a little work with subdomains though.

as far as open source. we don't have the site available in a zip file or anything. but we are willing to tell people how we did things (within reason, we want to help learn, not do a site for people) and help with code that we have. :)

that answer everything, or did i miss something?

On a side note, if you use/have dreamweaver MX or Fireworks 4/MX, they have a built-in menu generator that can make menus just like the ones on this site.
