I've only been a web manager professionally for 18 months but I'm making about the equivalent to $75K (as I work in Denmark right now) but Denmark has huge taxes so my take home is more like $43K... still not bad for no degree and basically just doing XHTML/css and a little bit of c# :)

I made $57k last year, although my base is only $52,500. I work in Chicago, the commute is a real pain. I do get somewhat flexible hours, but the benefits are crap.

Right now I am the "IT Director" (and...only one in my department, lol). I had gone to DeVry as a CIS major, but then I got pregnant/stressed out, and switched to business. I got a job at a title company as a title examiner (property searches...completely unrelated) and our IT person had left to go to law school. Sooo my boss hired another woman with all kinds of certs to be the IT person, and she had zero common sense. She once wiped out my entire Exchange mailbox, contacts, all of it...to fix a PRINTER problem. At that point, I reinstalled my own driver, complained to the boss, and shortly thereafter he fired her and promoted me from title examiner to IT Director......tell me that's not the oddest promotion ever.

So now I've been doing it for 2 years, I've learned to love it and am considering going to the Illinois Institute of Technology for a Masters. I have a scholarship at the community college though, so I'm basically getting a "Microsoft Application Developer" (VB.NET) certificate for free.

That's my story =)

Most people coming out of a 4yr university are expecting 55-75k USD starting as developers, moral of the story? get a degree.
