Open Source PHP Shopping Cart
Posted 23 June 2008 - 08:26 PM
Hey everyone,
I have a client who is looking to build an e-commerce site in the future. I know of a few premium carts to take a look at, but I was wondering if there was a secure and reliable open-source alternative. I'm trying to keep the client's overhead down, so even if it's just an inexpensive one, that's fine. I'm looking for something that's tried and tested, so let me know if you know of anything. Thanks a lot.

I've used FreeWebshop.org & it's highly customizable.
See my 2 live examples:

http://recycled-memories.com
I've added a shipping quote system that sends XML requests to USPS, UPS, DHL, & FedEx. As as implemented PayPal API/IPN, but I think the newest version of FreeWebShop offeres both PayPal & Google checkout (or something).

Awesome, thanks a lot. This actually looks like it might meet my needs. I'm still in the negotiation phase with the client and trying to wrap up some outstanding contract points, but I'll keep this one bookmarked. I'm curious about other options as well, but so far this one's looking good.

There is also OS Commerce. I have very very limited experience with it but it seems popular.

I prefer zeuscart, which is the best open source e-commerce software. Beside all other features this software is based on PHP Smarty templates, this makes it very flexible, seo friendly and easy to modify. They provide good support also. Further details: http://www.zeuscart.com/

I've worked with ZenCart a bit and can honestly say I do not like it's file & database structure, but perhaps that's just me. They both seem redundant in the naming conventions and physical files & locations.
I am currently working with CubCart to see if it will do what I need.
