Databasing Tutorials?

Post icon  Posted 30 June 2008 - 11:32 AM

Basically, I'm creating a very simple program that creates an Excel table from information put into the program. I've got a class set up for each set of data (essentially what will become the table's rows) and the variables in the class will be the columns. The data is collected and placed in a List<> of the class. All I need to figure out how to do now, is create the excel table. I've read a lot about SQL ADO.NET, but I'm too sure I fully understand the entire process. After reading http://davidhayden.c...05/26/2973.aspx and http://www.csharp-st...t/Lesson01.aspx I still don't know how exactly this can be done. I've come to the conclusion that I need an OleDB dataset and data adapter. Where I get stuck is the command I need to put into the data adapter.

Could someone point me in the direction of a tutorial, or explain right here, what kind of command string I need to input into the Data Adapter to create and then add rows to this table?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

errrr... so you want the input be stored in an excel table? What has that to do with SQL (databases)?

Well from what I understand, when I use a DataAdapter I need a command string..and it seems like the command strings are built with SQL commands...Perhaps I'm wrong? Any help would really be appreciated though. When I google Intro to SQL I get bombarded with books, and I can barely find anything online that's not a preview of some text I have to pay for.

I'm very interested to learn this as well. Please provide some hints so we can learn about it. My main goal is to build database query through Csharp, however writting data into Excel is not a bad idea since I read somewhere that data in Excel can be transported into Access or I can be wrong..

After I typed message above, I did some google search and here I found one. I haven't gotten the chance to start yet because my project hasn't reached that far yet.
