Looks really neat. I'm not a big fan of Flash but it's still good.

your not a big fan of flash... thats a pretty open ended statement. care to back it up with reasons?

I'm not a big fan of flash either because most of the time it is used with poor taste or judgement. For this type of site however, I find it is best. But for corporate sites...no.  This site is great not by any standards of design or coding but by standards of art. It certainly set a mood and atmosphere which was great and something sites seldom have-an emotion.
-codeman

so you dislike flash? or the way some people use it?
personally i think if its used correctly its a great if not best solution...
and many corporate sites i like use it...
example
www.nike.com
www.adidas.com (first two off top of my head)
the look clean, and professional and use a good amount of flash.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Flash is pointless with sites that contain tons of imformation, but for graphic sites that are using images instead of words it is the bomb. I like flash plenty.

Corporate sites were mentioned so I'll comment on those. I think a small bit of flash can add a lot to the site. I would not do the whole thing in flash however because it defeats the back button (I'm aware there is a solution for this but don't see anyone using it), and if the user refreshes it takes then back to the home page. Here is an example of what I would consider good usage of flash on a corp type of site (by our own josh dura):

I think what alot of you are complaining about are things that are being changed. This is like saying that all cars are built the same. With MX and some new features in it Flash has a very vaild place on the internet. Chat (text/video/audio), Groupware, Web Services, Rich Clients to database driven sites, are all great uses for Flash MX. Flash 5 was a toy compared to Flash MX so I don't even think you can compare them now.

I'd like hear what you guy have to say about this in about 6 months to a year. We'll see how your opinion changes.

The problem with Flash is:
1. You can't look through the code and LEARN something from it.
2. There is no code.
3. It can be done with DHTML.
4. You need a program to make it.

I don't say I hate or really dislike Flash, but I don't like to work with it.

Flash is just like any other tool. It's good for some purposes, if used properly, and not for others.

Just like a database. Or a crescent wrench.

The problem with you're POST is:
1. You can't look through the code.. ok.. and you cant steal somthing from others. If you want to learn, read, or check out open source websites.

2.There is TONS of code.. called.. ACTIONSCRIPT

3. Im sure you can make much more with flash then html

4. You need a program to make graphics- you're point?

but you CAN look at the code.

i download .fla's all the time from flashkit and play with them.
learning how they work.
taking them apart.
seeing the tweens, the actions etc...
i find it easier to take a part and learn than html or other coding languages.

1. Uh, go to Flashkit.com, click on movies. Gasp! Thousands of movies you can look at the source of. Hey, do me a favor, show me the code that made this page.
2. (ok, I have 2 answers for this) a. http://www.amazon.co...6356810-6507219
b. So what does this do then:
MovieClip.prototype.addProperty("onDoubleClick",
    function () {
        return this.$onDoubleClick;
    },
    function (func) {
        this.$onDoubleClick = func;
        this.$reset = function() {
            clearInterval(this.id);
            this.firstClick = false;
        };
        this.onPress = function () {
            if (this.firstClick) {
                this.$onDoubleClick();
                this.$reset();
            } else {
                this.firstClick = true;
                this.id = setInterval(this, "$reset", 500);
            }
        };
    }
);

//Usage
my_mc.onDoubleClick = function() {
    trace("double click detected!");
};

Is that just some made up fake code? Is it the code equivialnt to malignant?

3. So you can have live Videoconferncing with whiteboard, and shared code with DHTML? What about a music mixer? What about this. All that can be done with DHTML, cross platform, with no extra plugins? Dayum, I guess I need a new book.

4. Uh, no you don't. http://ming.sourceforge.net/

I hope I don't change my opinion because I was saying that I like flash. :) I was really talking just about corporate sites in that post and saying a little flash can go a long way.

There are definitely some types of sites that are made for flash! ...what Klewis said. I just wish I knew more of it.
