Computers have an amazing way of bringing you in to a false sense of security, letting you get your task nearly complete, and once you decide to change one critical but easy implementation, it won't allow you to do it with the way you designed it.

That happened today. I decided when I was designing a web page to use tables because they seemed easier to maintain and handle then using anything else. I had the whole page nearly done, but I knew I had to accommodate for different screen resolutions (I bothered to do it with the width at the start, but couldn't be farted getting the height working).

Now because I used tables, the percentages aren't working and doing a whole lot of wacky shit they aren't meant to be doing. Mentally breaking down (I say this because this is what I actually do ), I consulted google search and asked it to give me information about tables and setting their width and height in percentages. i hadz horrorz in the resulting information.

It seems that machine dogs me at least once a week. I'm not sure if this is normal, but I'm sick of it. I suppose the purpose of this topic is to vent steam towards computers. Feel free to bitch here.

EDIT: I suck at web design, but I'm learning. Everything said in this topic probably isn't even true. It's easier to blame other people than yourself, and i've been doing that a lot recently.

I know what you're saying about computers and everything, but HTML and tables is actually pretty easy.

Maybe you have some kind of crazy layout, but for most of my pages I usually do one big table to hold everything (because IE chokes on DIVs), with invisible borders.

Set the width using percentages from the start.

You can't set the height with percentages. Let the content stretch the table out vertically.

You're using XHTML and CSS I hope?

Learned that bit the hard way. But now I realize I don't even need to set the height in percentage and that I've converted to layers for no reason, and now I've gotta use CSS to get things vertically aligned to stay in the page (I don't want people to need to scroll.

Tables are easy but they weren't sitting right with the rounded corners on all the divs (don't know why, it was probably the method I used, and the divs weren't positioning right inside the tables).

I might have just been tired when I was doing it, I seem to be getting a lot further using layers than anything else.
