How is this type of artwork done?

Posted 10 July 2008 - 02:32 PM

I was wondering how this style of artwork is drawn.

Example 1: Posted Image

Example 2: Posted Image

Example 3: Posted Image

Example 4: Posted Image

They are a kind of cartoon styled art that I would like to know how to draw and with what program if applicable (the only programs I have are GIMP and Adobe CS3 Flash - not very good at artwork on either).

I have a friend who does stuff like this. (most similar to ex2)

The way he does it is to sketch the basic shape of it on a tablet, then render it in photoshop.

I don't know too much about this stuff, but that's the general gist of it :)

It's ussually made with a couple of different editors, but a good vector graphics editor like Inkscape should do most of them.

AND IT'S FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, that's how it's done. I know a guy who does that.
It's pretty amazing watching these guys draw.

That last one looks like it's been done in Flash, and if I'm not mistaken, it's Magical Trevor :)

(I'm pretty sure I've got it on my phone)

these look like drawings that have been either scanned and vectorized, or done on a tablet and vectorized. then you simply take the outline (the vector drawing) and import it into photoshop and then color it in (inside photoshop that is).

its a pretty long process, but as you can see, once you get good at it, it really pays off.
there are many tutorials out there that say how to color or shade or fill in a vector or a drawing in photoshop. look some of them up, then you'll understand how much effort goes into these. :)

good luck to you if you want to start doing things like this :)

Usually by underpaying your employees & forcing them to work long hours in harsh enviornments.

Done with a vector based program like Illustrator or Freehand. There's some good freebie open source programs though.

Yes, as everyone said already, vectors. But it can be done with Adobe Flash too. Just a different process. The best way to learn how to do this, is to just trace out images. It's kind of like putting a piece of paper on top of an image and drawing over it. A graphics tablet is useful for stuff like this, makes the vectors (lines) look more natural.

OK so it's a mixture of hand-drawn images and vector based images - cool.

Thanks for all you help.

Oh and also, BTW...
