Your programming style
Posted 11 July 2008 - 08:55 AM
So, what programming style do you prefer? .NET-Good or Bad? What language do you use?
Though i'm procedural, I suspect the java gurus will flood the OO choice...
Predictions for style(based on languages, excuse any stereotypes I make):
Java-OO
C-Procedural and Functional
C++-Diverse
C#-Also OO
VB, VB.NET-Not sure, have no experience with these
NOTE: THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO GROW INTO A HUGE ARGUMENT. KEEP YOUR REPLIES RESPECTFUL OF OTHER'S OPINIONS!
Tell me if I missed anything.

Nice thread
I'm intrigued to see what the outcome will be.
Personally I'm OO/C++ and I don't use .NET
Although, I'm looking into OO/C#/.NET right now

I know what .NET is, but I wonder why is it in this poll as a separate question.

Well, I don't know too much about it, but I believe you can use .NET with a lot of languages (not sure now easily).
I think VB.NET is also a newer version of VB, not just VB + .NET.
Am I correct Microsoft gurus?

.NET is a framework invented by Microsoft to expand and enhance windows developing. It can be used with C++ and VB, and ASP (If i missed a language, sorry), and I believe that it is mandatory for use with C# (I have very little C# programming experience). The nice thing about coding with .NET is it is easy to move from one implementation of .NET to another. However, it is non-portable.
Just google ".NET framework" if you're curious.
Procedural programming...Love it or hate it.

I chose OO and C++, although I can easily program in any of those styles and languages. I too am not sure as to the reason for the .NET component, but I am quite familiar with the .NET framework and languages.
No disrespect intended, but I believe you may have meant PERL as opposed to Pearl.

"I said I know what's .NET, but you've missed that."
Then what's your question? It's in a different section because it doesn't fit in the others, and its in the survey because it's a very popular cross-language framework.

Thanks for the corrections. I'll edit accordingly.

If .NET do not fit with others why there are other frameworks who don't fit ?
