VB .NET
VB6 is more obsolete and different from the rest of the .NET Framework

vb6 isnt a part of the .net frame work... it was developed for windows 98... which was not .net

I have not only installed vb6 on vista x64, but also on win7 x64 platforms, You just have to tell the UAC that the app has to run with elevated privs... installed and ran just fine.

VB6 is a simpler language that can be better understood by English speaking people, .net is not the same, it is a bit more difficult to get the jist of what is being done... As well as the need to call many functions, and my personal dispute that they killed off a bunch of features from vb7 and newer that I really liked...

As far as the continued marketability of applications and skills, .net is the thing just like Bob Rhodes and a few others have said... I am however impressed with VB6's ability to hang on...

VB6 will forever and always have a place in my heart... :)

I still tinker with VB6 on occasion, it has many uses even today. But when I need to write a serious application? I will use C every time. For people who really want to keep using BASIC, I suggest you have a look at FreeBASIC. Very powerful stuff, and the syntax is 99.9% VB6/QB compatible.

It can compile well-written apps that approach the speed of many C/C++ programs. It even supports pointers, inline assembly, unions, etc..

Hmm. Nice thread, which I've never read until now. I understood the title to mean "should I use VB6 or should I use VB.Net?", and frankly I didn't care. :) Perhaps we can change the title to clarify the meaning somehow, and I won't have to move posts to VB.Net so often.
