Nykc your desktop is delightfully ironic :)

Hehe - when I worked at Huntington Bank with XP I used to always put Linux backgrounds on the desktop. ROFL. I always got a rise out of people with those.

I'm using XP, but i've rigged my comp to look like Vista.

Seriously, that has to be the ultimate desktop. You got about 10 programming apps, 3 web browsers, an audio editor, Paint Shop Pro X2, Animation Shop (it's an old app, but it works great), regedit and command prompt, MS Office 2003, a killer .NET decompiler, a shortcut to my wallpapers directory (which has over 1,500 wallpapers that i've collected), Media Player 11, a super geeky wallpaper, and the stability of XP with the look of Vista. Oh, and see that bar thing on the top, that's a little application desktop toolbar i made. It's got a bunch of useless nerdy information on it (CPU, moon phase, comp uptime, ect.), and i even gave it a built-in mp3 player that has play lists, and will play an mp3 if you drag one onto it.

I used Vista Transformation Pack (you can find it on Cnet). It's completely free, and does a great job. However, i did a little work myself and fixed some things the program overlooked.

My desktop is in Vista Basic theme because there is no way with a simple windows theme to replicate the glass effect of Vista. I've tried WindowBlinds in a trial, and it was awesome, but i didn't like it enough to spend $20 on it.

If your spending $20 to make XP look like Vista, you might as well just spend the extra $60 and get an OEM copy of Home Premium.

NYKC, on your Vista computer, how do you get so many applications on your sidebar? I can only fit 4...you have 6.

I suppose the monitor size is probably a bit bigger than mine. My (laptop) monitor is 15.4", so I think that'll be a factor.

Unless the hardware can't handle it *this is not a knock at Windows, for once, but actual sound advice*
