No, I'm asking you because I went and that's the phrase it had on the door.

It's a recreation of medieval London during the plague, great fire, and other historic incidents. It's pretty creepy.

I'm sure its possible, but i don't think anyone can master the material without continually learning to stay on top.

@gabe yes its a typo.

Anything is possible to master. With enough practice, you could teach yourself to do back flips. Programming languages are no exception. They are very possible to master and thousands of people have.

Like learning the sax, it's easy to get started, you can beep out some kid tune in the first lesson.

After this there are phases:
1. You get to be able to do it quite well. You can't handle every problem but you are not afraid to ask for help.

2. You get good. You are so good you know all the answers and thus do not need to learn anything new or ask for help.

3. You make enough mistakes to learn some humility. Your kids have to program the telephone for you. You ask for help and give help. You keep learning. At this stage you are awesome, but since you are human you keep slipping back to stage 2.

4. You get ancient; in project meetings you go on about the old days. You retire and take up gardening. If you can't afford to retire you go into Quality Assurance.

A pretty good sign that I am not very busy this week. Don't tell my boss...

Apart from that, I want to see what the next level is. Is it like D&D? Do I get new powers?

You'll become a D.I.C Head when you reach 50 posts.

As your post count gets higher, you'll get a bigger message inbox, to store more messages.

Not really new powers though :)

I was actually going to post a new topic of discussion about learning methods.

I have been coding for over 8 years, mostly scripting with HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP.

I have taken several classes on C++, C Programming, Java, and also self teaching myself the likes of Python, PHP etc.

I can basically code a web page in my sleep HTML is a second language for me as with CSS.

However I have a hard time working with C, C++ and JAVA. I have been seriously cramming C/C++ down my throat reading over 3-4 books at a time and I cannot grasp it or get comfortable with it. I can read for days and still cant grasp much of it. I mean I know C/C++ but I can not seem to master it.

I am wondering what are the best ways to teach yourself to learn. It seems as I get older my attention span gets shorter, I have ADHD as it is. Until I learn a good method to teach myself good learning techniques I will have to struggle making sense of these 800+ page books that might as well be written in Chinese for me.

Go from the basics and work your way up. Keep redoing everything over and over and over and over until you figure it out and it sticks. Try different methods for the same idea, to get a better understanding of how what you're trying to learn, works.. :)

Programming is relatively easy. If you have an open mind you can grasp the important concepts quickly. Some people have more trouble than others.

The most important thing to learning anything is to make sure you enjoy it. If you find it boring, it's gonna be hard to take in

Very true. I've found myself drifting away from programming many times because I thought it was boring. It's always good to take a break from something for a little bit though. I'm just now starting to get back into Python/C++ after like 7 monthes of dabbling in other languages and playing around in 3d.

IMO, programming isn't hard and is actually quite fun, though learning it can sometimes be tiresome.

It's all about understanding concepts and systems. Also knowing what you want tends to help.
