I've definitely written things like "This could be done more efficiently. Lazy" in comments. I always say I'll make it more efficient later, but never do (unless it's something important).

Sure, but not to that extent.
I'll write all kinds of notes to myself in the comments, and delete it later. Once I think I handed in an assignment with a block of comments to myself left in...oops.

That is the reason that I don't use comments (well not quite, I do us ecomments sometimes, but that is mostly just something like FIXME!!!).

I've definitely made comments like that once my concentration has shifted from the code to something else. Especially if I'm working under a tight deadline.

I found the comic very amusing but I can't imagine stream of consciousness style comments. I don't really put "notes" into my code. To me they are documentation (meant for other people to read -- not me). I may use "//TODO:" tags from time to time, but generally I never actually get around do doing todo notes... it it wasn't important to get the code working than... well if I get to it I get to it.

Funny thing is... for my personal projects, this may not be a bad idea. I mean when I work in Mathematica* my "programs" actually end up looking more and more like reports for school. I like this style, and yet I never use anything close to it when programming in C or Java.

*Mathematica's notebooks are more like editing a word document and adding in code.

There is code from me out there somewhere with the comments:

"I am ashamed of this bit"

also

"This is miserable hackwork but I havn't got time to do it properly"

and

"Sorry about this but the customer wanted it this way"

I hope it makes life more cheerful for the poor guys who have to work on it some day.
