Olympics

Posted 06 August 2008 - 10:04 PM

Alright, we're an international community and we've all got people in the Olympics, so who are you rooting for?

Capty99 has a great blog writeup on the 8 reasons to watch the Olympics if you needed a reason: http://www.tylerjame...asons-to-watch/

Here's the events this year:

I was never a big sport watcher.
I think Olympics is becoming a farce, and the current one is the best example, it has nothing to do with the original idea. It is a sick joke that China is organizing it.
I am really leaning towards that professional sport does not worth the whole thing, all the THG scandals, whatever.
I think the Greeks did it right, people should not make a living of it, students should not be accepted to universities because of sports achievements, it should be only fun.
I like doing sports, and I am pretty good in some of them, so I don't envy anything, I just think that it is not the right way to do this.
Anyway, Hungary is usually doing quite well (water polo, canoeing, boxing, fencing, gymnastics, wrestling, maybe more ) related to the size of our population, so I'll probably keep an eye on the headlines, but that's all. I'll only watch anything if it is on in the pub I am currently "relaxing" in.

I can't believe (actually I can) China got pissed at the US Olympians wearing masks in the airport. Your air sucks! I've been there! Their lungs are highly trained/specialized, they can't breathe that crap like us normal folks can.

At the gym yesterday, this was the funniest title I saw on the news:

"IOC says air around stadium is mist, not smog"

LMFAO

USA wearing masks for the win.

I am rooting for my country of course, but could give two shits about the Olympics.

On a lighter note but relevant - My little sister qualified in the Junior Olympics and won three medals in baton and my cousin took silver in wrestling.

I am going to vote for the USA in all Shooting Sports.

Those competing are the best of the best that the military has to offer. They shoot more a week then I have my entire life.

Here is your custom over under and your MOS is now Trap and skeet start throwing lead soldier

Switzerland May take the rifle events though. Every Sunday they have mandatory rifle practice. The members of the Civil defense force shoot at 1600 meters the rest of the citizenry shoots at 800. You would be hard pressed to find an American that can shoot at 800 meters. Hell most inner city youths cant shoot at 5 feet .

thanks buddy for the link.

i feel i am like most americans.... watching few actual events, but knowing that if the medal count doesn't go our way i will raise hell as america's luster is lost on the international stage...

honestly though, what would happen if we didn't win?

If we were in other countries and they didn't win, the athletes are executed with extreme prejudice. I guess those bastards should have performed harder.

I've never been a big sport watcher, but I watched it last time it was on. I was gonna watch it this year, but I refuse to.

Free Tibet!

:)

Edit: fixed an embarrassing mistake
