Favorite error messages

Posted 07 August 2008 - 05:50 AM

Let's face it, error messages are annoying but every once in awhile one pops up that just makes you giggle. Don't deny it. :)

My personal favorites.

missing script is too old or missing

Slightly related.

I remarked to Dennis that easily half the code I was writing in Multics was error recovery code. He said, 'We left all that stuff out. If there's an error, we have this routine called panic, and when it is called, the machine crashes, and you holler down the hall, 'Hey, reboot it.'

What are yours?

I love BSOD error messages. My favorite:

IRQ_Not_Less_Or_Equal

Quote

Pagefault_In_Nonpage_Area

I don't really care for the linux kernel panics. They blurt out more technical info than good old error messages. Another one of my favorite errors is a slightly-less devastating application error:

Quote

The instructor '0x000420F2' referenced memory at '0x02005E3D'. The memory could not be "written".

Click OK to terminate the program.
Click Cancel to debug the program.

In my computers whole life, i've only got one BSOD.

BSOD is too funny to pass up; I just gotta laugh at it.

lol, stop kidding yourself. If you've only BSODed once, you've done nothing with your computer.

Considering i've only been around 13 years, and i just got my first computer of my own about a year ago, that's not really hard to believe at all.

"This field name is not known" - Crystal Reports 8

That error message makes me want to kill whoever wrote Crystal Reports. If you have a report that references a field that should be in the dataset that you pass into the report, but the field doesn't exist in the dataset, THAT is the error you get. HOW FREAKING HARD would it be to tell me the name of the field? No, that's just too helpful. They would prefer I dig through every nook and cranny that you can stick a formula and make sure I don't have any bad field references. It pisses me off to no end.

The all time best error message has to be:

Quote

Keyboard error or no keyboard present.

Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter setup
