darker sites are much better
they are not hard on the eyes, and that is a very important thing

Sure if it is midnight and I have no lights on in the office I like darker sites, but during the day it doesn't matter and when it comes down to it, light sites look nicer in general. :)

it completely depends on what type of site..

professional - definitely whiter

if somone is doing something more personal, or maybe an art based site, than it doesnt matter.
