Why is it that people who use Macs go out of their way to let people know - as if it will impress anyone? I see apple stickers on cars and people use the apple logo for their GTalk icon (real original). Why do they feel the need to advertise that fact? I don't put a windows or Intel or nVidia/Ati sticker on anything. Why? Because it's hardware. It's a means to and end. And aren't Macs using Intel x86 architecture now anyway? What am I missing?

I see a lot of guitars with it on. A kid in my old school even had an Apple logo on his school bag. (Even though he'd never used a Mac)

I think there's just an appeal of the logo, to people who don't know how shit Macs truly are.

I would argue that no computer is worse than any other; it's all about how it gets used by it's owner. However, I've noticed that there are a lot of people who make the switch to Apple hardware(be it an iPod or a Mac or anything else) buy into Apple's 'cool' marketing way too much. I think that's largely why so many people go so out of their way - because they think that their choice of computer makes them cooler or somehow superior in relation to everyone else, and they want you to know.

I call those people douches, but that's just me.

The way I understand it is that if you have no money and you don't know anything about computers, you buy a dell. If you have way too much money and don't undestand computers, you buy a mac.

Seriously though, I've noticed the one thing that PC users can do that a lot of mac users can't do and that is to shut the fuck up about it.

I don't understand their fascination either, but I just ignore them. I guess it would be the same as the people who buy and wear a band's t-shirt at a concert of theirs.

As for the Macs being crap comment, every computer is designed for a purpose. Macs are great for multimedia stuff like video and photo editing. Windows are decent for business applications and most home users due to ease of use. Linux is great for servers and getting better for home users all the time. As girasquid said, it's how its used by the owner.

Every time someone goes out of their way to mention they're a Mac user to me, I'm reminded of that South Park episode in which the use of hybrid cars resulted in elevated smug levels. Then I laugh. When they ask me what I'm laughing about, I spit in their face. When they ask why I did that, I tell them I have Tourette's. They feel sorry for me and let it go. Sometimes they buy me a muffin, which is cool.

Same reason that gay's and lesbians advertise it in parades in certain places... too much fruit in your diet leads to people thinking they have to advertise such things. In order to live healthy lives, we need substance, not just fruit.

It's just the steryeotype that Macs are cool and if you have/use one, that your missing out on the expirience of using a computer from a different company that costs a crap-load of money.
