So I was linked to this site by a friend from EoFF forums. My problem is, I have a paper due tomorrow and I am still trying to get research on it. I am an aspiring computer engineering major writing an essay for my engineering english class. The assignment is to observe a technology, and a subgroup within society using/reacting to/etc to the technology. Since everybody else is duing video games or cars, I decided I was going to do an interesting spin on computer programming languages, and observe how programmer use the languages, what they do with it, is it for work or for fun, etc. Any input would be sweet, and you will totally get like +10 awesomeness points for helping me. This forums and site looks like I could really benefit beyond my essay, so I think I'm going to stay. Perhaps

I program as a hobby though. There you go, there's your essay, right there: "gabehabe programs as a hobby." I'd love to move into a programming career, though~ only problem is, the UK is retarded when it comes to IT. The only IT jobs available within 10 miles are receptionist positions at places I've never even heard of...

As far as your paper goes, I program for class and work. I enjoy programming, but I don't really ever do it just for fun...

I program both professionally and for a hobby, yeah I'm a sucker for punishment. If this were a paper for a psych class I would be a bad subject, as I don't go into my own head too often, well unless I absolutely have to, it's kind of scary in there

I've been a professional programmer for the past 15 or so years, I program in C++, C#, VB6, VB.NET and I know Basic, J#, Boo, Perl, Python, MSSQL, mySQL, etc. etc.. and am currently teaching myself Java (I said I was a sucker for punishment didn't I?)

If you're into programming you'll definitely benefit from DIC, there are tons of experts in just about every known language (and some that aren't so well known) here. So I hope you enjoy your stay
