Here's a thought on the name:
CIDER ~ CIDER: Integrated Development Environment (and) Resources.
Stuff like PHP does that, doesn't it?

Combined & Integrated Development Environment (and) Resources.

P.S. I got code for the get the output of an console application. (In VB.Net) I post it after I unstalled the old Antivirus software (Norbert) and installed the new one.

Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of grabbing the output of the console.

OK, this console stuff has got me stumped, I've been trying it for ages~ there doesn't seem to be anything online, either... :(

I'll figure it out.

And you're added. :)
What is it that you want to work on?

I've been studying java for about half a year now and I'm understanding it decently. I was looking at the resource sheets and it seems that they have a lot in common in their basic structure. If you wouldn't mind, could I tag along ( not really join unless you have a simple job ) to try and learn some new things? If not, its cool.

Sure! Do you want to be added to the list, or just tag along and view the code as we go along?

I think we should break the list up a little more, those who will actually be developing, and those who will be going along to learn the key concepts of software design/C#.NET

You're all welcome on the team, but I'm just thinking in the long run~ we don't want a project with 40 admins, or something like that.

Everyone will go in the credits, but it's time to decide who will do what.

ME: all round, I'll be doing anything that needs doing. I've got a lot of time to spend on this.

Who else?

It feels weird being back at the design view. I've been coding everything in to the snippet manager for ages (which it turns out, has already had 8 downloads on the SF!)

Anyway~

Here's a screenshot of a 5-minute throw-together:
Attached Image

The icons won't stay~ hopefully omo will be designing custom ones. Otherwise, I'll take a stab at it.

Obviously the UI is gonna be a lot more complex than that, but just a quick mock. :)

I also want to add a function dropdown in the tabs, to list each function (easy to do, actually)

I'm thinking of trying out the Vista styling~ black gradients, etc. Obviously, the user could revert back to the default state, but I personally love a good design.

I can actually grab quite a bit of functionality from the Snippet Manager for stuff like tabbed browsing, syntax highlighting, etc.

What do you know about adding plugin support? I don't know much about that...

As for the Intellisense, I think that's going to have to be a group effort, putting all our knowledge of all the different languages together. If you take a look at stuff like assembly, variable names are listed before datatypes. That's what I meant about patterns.

The intellisense is basically a predictive spellchecker. (VB.Net + LINQ)
I'm starting to like LINQ more and more
Dim Intellisense as IEnumerable(Of DatabaseType)
Intellisense=FROM Item AS DatabaseType IN LanguageDatabase SELECT item WHERE item.language=SelectedLanguage ANDALSO (item.word LIKE CurrentWord & "*")
DisplayWord.Clear
For Each IntellisenseWord As DatabaseType In Intellisense
 DisplayWord.Add(IntellisenseWord.Word)
Next

Reading Console Output, as promised
 Private Function Run_Console(ByVal _Path As String, Optional ByVal _Args As String = "") As String
'
' Warning: If console application need user input, it can crash or timeout. (Fixes are welcome)
'
        If My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists(_Path) = False Then Return ""
        Run_Console = ""
        Dim _Prog As New Process
        Try
            With _Prog.StartInfo
                .WorkingDirectory = _Path.Substring(0, _Path.LastIndexOf("\") + 1)
                .FileName = .WorkingDirectory & _Path.Substring(_Path.LastIndexOf("\") + 1)
                .CreateNoWindow = True
                .UseShellExecute = False
                .RedirectStandardOutput = True
                .RedirectStandardError = True
                .RedirectStandardInput = True
                .Arguments = _Args
            End With
            _Prog.Start()
            Run_Console = _Prog.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd

            _Prog.WaitForExit()
        Catch ex As Exception
            Throw ex
        End Try
    End Function

Plugins are fairly easy to implement, the hard part is designing the basic template.

Thanks :^:

Now I just need to figure out a way to implement it in C# ~ I think I've got it. :)

You up for developing this IDE?

LMAO! That was unexpected.

I'm not sure, it's up to you. I'm all for evenly sharing the work amongst the more experienced coders, and letting the less experienced tag along as a learning experience. Perhaps they could make the plugins, smaller apps? I think it must be one of the best ways to learn a language, to jump in at the deep end.

I think you'd be beneficial to the team, I've seen a lot of great advice/contributions from you in the past.

:)
