The heck is the code on the banner?

Posted 26 September 2008 - 09:00 PM

Is it the source for a string class? Cause it looks like that's all it is. Not very portable at that either, just supports char's.

If you are talking about the top of the DIC page (in the orange) it appears to be a reverse string function. Notice it is called reverse() and takes in a string. It then creates a loop and fetches characters with charAt(i).

Looks fine to me and who really care, its a decoration. ;)

As far as I know there is no standard library in C with a charAt function with an int only parameter. It's probably Java.

The fact that String is capitalized tells me that it's neither C nor C++ (unless they have changed since I last used them :)). Are there other languages, aside from Java, that have a String object that is capitalized?

I believe Javascript does, but it is not defined in this way, also defining the type of a var is not required anyway.

I am pretty sure it is Java and to answer the previous question, C# also has a String class with the capital "S". But since charAt is pretty much a thing of Javascript/Java I will go with Java. It also has a lowercase length method of a string which takes parenthesis... another indicator that it is probably Java.

:)

I thought C#'s string class was with a lowercase "s"...hm.

string var = "hello";

...Or is that just a simple data type (or equivalent)?

Version 5 actually had a mistake in the code for the header that people kept pointing out.

Since we're discussing the header, there are a number of easter eggs around the site (at least there used to be) lets see if you chumps can find them.

That is the data type equivalent. The String class provides functions to allow you to perform operations on strings.

Quote

The String class provides members to compare String objects, return the index of a character or string within a String object, copy the value of a String object, partition a string or combine strings, modify the value of string, format numbers, dates and times, or enumeration values into a string, and normalize a string.

I found a "color-inverted" w00t by accident a few months back, but not much else.
