I used java for about a year and a half at work, mainly XML and ascii parsing, also writing of xml and ascii.

id like to use more of the enterprise stuff though......

I use Java. Not as much as c/c++, but I use it nonetheless

i want to start learning. (especially since i learned that the university of new mexico [the college im most likely going to] is moving from c++ to java for all their comp sci program)

If you know C++, you'll pick up java in no time.

java is a whole lot easier to learn than C++....its object oriented but it takes a lot of the complexity(of C++) away from the programmer...

I use Java pretty much these days, mainly for visual output and responsive applets and that kind of stuff. I'm working on image-processing now.

Sloth: The Java compiler is free to be downloaded from java.sun.com. Just look for the Java SDK.

Yeah, it's not my absolute favourite language...I don't have any problems with the syntx, it's the resource management that I worry about.

I am currently in Java at my highschool...I still like c++ more.

What i would like help with in java is how to make a chat program across the internet.

java is a very nice and powerfully portable language.

i've been learning java for a few months.
going from vb to php to sql to c to c++ to c to java was very nice and simple.

ive been trying to make checkers for java but i could never find out how to use the mouse click function...or whatever...i like java because its really easy to make a GUI, rather than c++....

i have a checkers (by checkers i mean picking up and putting down the peices on sqaures... no actual "gameplay") applet i wrote for my programming 12 class if you want it...
