dream.in.code is a SPAMMER!

Posted 26 March 2002 - 10:08 PM

dream.in.code is spamming. they have been spamming ever since the place was started. i signed up. i specified "do not receive silly email newsletter because i never read them and they just fill up my inbox along with all that other forwarded clutter from relatives and deadbeat friends" option. however, they started showing up. constantly. i decided to unsubscribe. the feature seemed to work. until the newsletter came THE NEXT TIME. it will NEVER let you unsubscribe! even if you never signed up for it in the first place.

i could put it in my spam filter, but it is against principle.

email is called spam when it is one of the following:

1) has porn that you do not like
2) doesn't stop coming even when you specify that it shouldn't
3) comes from someone you don't know

it could be all of the above except i do know the message comes from dream.in.code. but i don't personally know the guy who writes it. in fact, i never read it at all!

this brings me to another topic... this little problem has been going on since dream.in.code was started... and it STILL hasn't been fixed. how hard is it to update a database table? i don't know PHP all that well, but if it is THAT hard i am going to personally kill anyone who promotes PHP ever again, and in the most painful way possible. you know... like tying one arm to the back of a pickup truck and the other to a sturdy lamp post, and driving slowly away in low gear...

now please, fix the #### spam bug. i don't want this email message anymore. sure, i will put it in my spam block, BECAUSE IT IS SPAM. i swear to god it is the most pathetic thing ever! it cannot possibly be that difficult to fix this error that has been present since dream.in.code first appeared!

I'll respond view email to this person. It's been announced repeatedly the 'unsubscribe' feature does not work all the time and because of that it's a simple fix by just changing the email address listed to a bounce email addy.

*shrugs*

Can't please everyone.

and thus, the humor drifts across the room, .4 inches over the head of all present, flying out the window, down the street, and then stopping to kill innocent children.

Your post is very inappropriate. I will not delete it as I will use you as an example. It has been mentioned many times before in the newsletter that the unsubscribe feature does not always work. If you have a problem with the emails you are receiving from us, you should have followed a set of logical steps by first emailing the webmaster (Me) and requesting you be removed from the mailing list which you joined automatically when you became a dream.in.code member. A newsletter is not spam, it is just thatů a newsletter. Your comments are welcome, but when presented in the manner you did tonight. I do not welcome them. I will not tolerate little kiddies slandering me or my site, I will let it be known that you did not follow my instructions or ever email me. Of the 5 or 6 people that DO email me each week because they were unable to un-subscribe, they are all handled immediately. Please use your head the next time you want something done. Now, if you would like to unsubscribe from the mailings, you need to change your email address to [email protected] this will simply redirect the emails back to us.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding this.

Best Regards,

Chris Kenworthy

my post is inappopriate because i complained (humorously) about a silly flaw in your webpage?

like i said, you either totally missed the joke or you just have a very low tolerance for anything negative about your page.

i did not follow the instructions? let's see, i clicked the little "unsubscribe" link on the email and then set the preferences accordingly. yeah, right where it says "how to get off this newsletter."

you claim that it has been mentioned several times that you must use a "bounce" address to unsubscribe. well, i can't find this anywhere in like the last six or so newsletters i have. if it's there, it is so cleverly hidden as to be useless. why didn't you add it near the unsubscribe link instead? heck, why not put it in the profile page? ("type [email protected]" to unsubscribe"). i can't see how difficult that would be.

so basically, you are upset because

1) i tried to make a joke. do you think if i were serious i would post it in such a public manner?
2) because i "didn't follow the instructions to unsubscribe" which weren't really there, and the ones that were didn't work. so i followed the wrong instructions, right.
3) because i didn't email you first. well, i didn't see your email anywhere on the newsletters. no technical support links really.

jeez, i'm sorry if you didn't get the joke or if this offended you. it was sarcastic, funny, silly, never mean. but for god's sakes, now you make it sound like i was some sort of evil satanic spammer, when all it was was a silly way to say that things aren't clear for getting off the email list.

some people, when they hear a complaint, they address it by fixing the problem. jeez, that would have been so much easier than blasting me for not following the instructions and procedures that were never present, or never worked.

We have smilies for a reason, use them... if you were being sarcastic you needed to convey that. I deal with little kiddies bullshit every day, I address issues as I see appropriate. Spam is not something I take lightly as I could have my site shutdown for it. I'm in a pissy mood, you caught shit... happy?

Welcome to dream.in.code :)

and no, i'm not new. i've been haunting this place but never the forums since it first surfaced long time ago.

*shrugs* we will have a new forum system in a few weeks, until then people can just live with it. I'm not overly concerened as people have handled it properly in the past and I'm sure will continue to. I don't get ANY complaints, and only 5-6 unsubscribe requests. The new system will be MUCH better.
