I have a little baseball training facility in my garage that starting around this time of the year I start to hit every day and get in shape for the season. Of course I have to have some music playing while I am working out, and even when I go to the gym I always have head phones on.

Well apparently my neighbor 3 houses down was sitting in his living room watching T.V. and could hear what I was listening to “Clear as day. Sounded like the music was coming out of my T.V.”

I’ve always liked my music as loud as possible. I had some make shift house speakers in college that got me into a lot of trouble and as of yesterday are still upsetting people.

So my question to you guys is… How loud do you like your music?

Does it depend on what you are doing?

Or are you like me where you like to rock out no matter where you are!

Very loud. All the time. Even when I have a headache.

Every different way - it depends on the music, the occasion, and the medium I am listening to it on. When I'm in my studio I can crank it up loud because the room is soundproof and the equipment I have is very good, so the speakers don't get distorted. The type of music most important... it's kind of hard to reason cranking up a string quartet to deafening volumes simply for the sake of doing it (except to squeeze out the tonal complexities of it all). So.... all of the above.

I usually listen to my music at around 7% to 10% headphone volume because my hearing is pretty sensitive. But, sometimes when a new song I hear that really rawks and is really good, I turn it up high enough, but keeping it low enough so that it doesn't hurt or damage my hearing.

But I can't have it that way all the time. Other people live here, too, and they don't like my music. So I only get to listen to what I like, the way I like it, when I am driving.

Sometimes at church I like soft music instead of loud, but usually louder is better!

I cannot stand loud music. I probably listen to it somewhere between soft and medium. I like to be able to hear everything that's going on around me and hear my music in the background, not the other way around. However, i don't want to strain my ears to be able to hear it. Once, just to see what it was like, i equalized one of my favorite hip hop songs so that it was like 99% bass and at like 50 herts, and played it as loud as my stereo and computer volume would go. My dad was in his office above my room, and it hadn't been one minute before he came down and said for me to turn the damn stuff off or he'll take my sub woofer away. Besides, the kind of hip-hop i listen to cranking up the volume means drywall falling off the ceiling, pictures shaking on the wall, a three on the Richter scale, ect. Oh, and biggles, i swear to God do not reply saying hip hop sucks.

i gave up my mp3 player for a while its been about a month.

i think i hurt my hearing permanently from that thing... i can't listen to it at an average volume, its all the way up... i don't hear as well.

When I'm working at my computer I have it as loud as my wife will allow (LOL), which can be pretty loud since I have a Creative 8 speaker system (550 watts) attached to my computer

It's hard to say.

I live in the city, so there are always sirens. In the summer on Wed nights there is a Gazebo down the road where they have horrible cover bands. There is always something loud going on.

When I am driving, it's always too loud.

I also go to concerts, which is... uhm, deafening.

Then there is my iPod. I have to have that down a little.

So I don't have a definitive answer.

I listen to a large amount of classical, which has to be turned up because of the dynamic contrast. However, when I am listening to music that is more all the same volume I keep it medium low.

I wish I had strong speakers, my dad can probably help me build some good ones since he's engineered a few before. I want more watts so it sounds wonderful when I turn it just loud enough for me to hear (as he demonstrated to me a while ago when he built his home theater). Am I the only one who answered very faint?

Well, yea. While studying or coding I listen to pop rock songs on a lower volume.

Well when I was in High school I used to have one of those car stereos that had lots of bass, But since I listened to stuff other then C Rap I had lots of mids and highs also. I would then drive around in predominately Black neighborhoods and blast some hard core Pipe and Drum music. Nothing like a nice march to get the neighbors pissed off.

Then again growing up every neighborhood in STL city is predominately black.
