How to create a website

Posted 12 November 2008 - 11:49 PM

Hi All,
I have two doubts:

1) I needed information as to how do we start a website from scratch.
Meaning that Buying a domain name, getting a webspace and all such stuffs - I have very limited knowledge about this - hope someone will help.

2) If I create a website that uses SQL-Server as its DB, then where will this DB server be present?

Need your knowledge so as to increase my knowledge.

Regards,
deDis.

This will depends completely on the host. Each hosting service will have their own setup.

hi dedis0,

Well, at first, think about what kind of homepage do u want.
p.e. should it be only with html an php etc.
or should it be on ASP.Net basis - this means, there is a codebehind file..
You can use this codebehind file p.e. to write an serverbased emailprogramm
(the user dont need an own emailprogram and can send a message directly from the homepage..

If u want ASP.Net, you have to look which hoster offer this..

With which program do you want to create the HOmepage?
p.e. you have the visual Web Developer 2008 Express edition with all
updates, You use the .Net framework 3.5 and the host has to offer this...

Then check this tutorial for creating a homepage

http://www.dreaminco...wtopic17744.htm

It shows you the basics of html..

So far

best wishes

Ok, then look for the best price for the Webspace you need and the domain u want,
then check if u need ASP.Net..
Order the offer..
A few days later you get acces to your webspace per ftp..
upload ur contents to the homepage-folder (httpdocs mostly)

if you need SQL server, the host has to offer this.. mostly u´ve got
to pay extra for it.. MYSQL is for free...

Thats it ;) you are online ;)

You should study the vast offer of those who offer web hosting before choosing yours . You should choose a good domain name and the host that satisfies everything you want at a reasonable price. And be sure that they guarantee you a high uptime of the servers (99.99%), because not all of them guarantee through contract.

I am not sure what to tell you about the second question.

hostgator has very good service and fairly cheap prices, so check them out, their db server is local like most hosts ive come across, so you would just use localhost for you address, if you have any questions they have a 24/hr support chat online. as well as pretty good staff it might take time if you submit a ticket but their over all pretty good and lots of space/bandwith for your money. G Luck. if you have any questions just message me, i might forget to check back here.
