here in ontario its called OHIP - Ontario Health Insurance Plan

meaning, we get free healthcare...

yeah, we pay higher taxes, generally, than you do.... but then it's (theoretically) more balanced by income, and no one is denied care.

but in some provinces you pay premiums, too, which is a ripoff--supposedly it gives us more benefits than the provinces without premiums. but geez... i HAVE to pay the premium for the provincial health care, no opting out, and it sucks ($40/month)

so there's a reason i didn't put healthcare on my list of reasons to move to canada :P

another thing to add, we have 15% tax and we have all those benifits, the EU (european union for those less educated) has a tax of 19.9% (or is it 19.5%) and they do not recieve even close to the amount of benifits we do. PLUS they use Euros, which is closer to the american dollar (worth more) then my dollar is. Oh, and also Sloth, try going to a police station, or some other facility similar to that and yell that at the top of your lungs several times, you'll have people all over you, over here, nobody would do anything.

Canada is considored somewhat as a communist government because of our health care
Some people pay more taxes then others, but we all get the same treatment , (which I personally thing is quite corrupt for numerous reasons).

We all tend to be afraid of the word "Communism" and where does that fear come from???

well i'll tell you, we were all afriad of Stalinist Totalitarianism, which is almost completely opposite from true communism, Stalin just covered up his iron fisted rule under the semi-Marxist views of Lenin (who was gererally a good guy, but stalin gave him a bad rap), so if a pure communist society were to be put in place it wouldn't be all that bad, if the socio-economical climate of said country had a need for it, ie just as 1910's Russia did

So don't call someone a commie bastard without knowing what communism really is, if you must insult a soviet under stalinist ideals then use stalinist-totalitarianism bastard
