I'm teaching my self C++ and going full steam ahead in the right path.
But i ask my self what chance i got of getting a job without a Bachelor's or just with some Microsoft Certifications.
I know a Bachelor's is a plus but here where i live (PuertoRico),Education is pretty screwed up.
With 23 Holidays a year and if a hurricane strikes,is 23days + 1 or 2 weaks more without school,That's kind of a lot.
I want to know if people are working without a Bachelor's,I already contacted some peeps at Microsoft and they gave me some encouraging but i want to know what you guys think.
Regards...

Even though your base for this poll is C/C++, this is for of a professional question, so I'm going to move this to the Corner Cubicle.

Just a note: I can't vote. I think it's because it's two polls and I don't want to have to do one of the options for without a bachelors as that would skew the results.
I actually am working with my bachelors. I got it in 2 years by taking 40 hours of class a week without any vacations. Unfortunately, I was still denied a job at a company that shall remain nameless, solely for the reason that I did not go to school for 4 years. A BS and over a year of experience in the industry, too. Oh well, their loss, right? Considering that everyone I interviewed with really enjoyed me and that I got through the entire interviewing process on my technical merits.

Can not take poll.
I am working without a bachelor's, but in the process of getting it. I should have it in less than 2 years if everything goes well!

I hold a Masters degree in CS. No option here, however.

I already have a bachelors degree in Communication Studies from the U of Iowa. Useful for 99% of the fields out there. Except computers.
So...my wife is a professor for a local college and because of that I get free tuition (30k+ per year...for free
) and it will take me two years total to get ANOTHER bachelors degree, this time Business W/ MIS focus as well as a minor in CS. They did transfer all of my credits from Iowa, so I really didn't (don't)have to do any other 'general education' credits. Will be finishing in May 09 and I've got a job lined up from an internship I had over the summer.

That's good news. Gen ed. is boring. [However, useful]

Studied using internet resources for a year, nothing else.
[Really crappy IT grades... Crap teachers at school saying I'd get As and I got Ds]
So grades weren't in the equation.
Never been to uni, don't plan on going. Went to college for a term and dropped out because the teachers were never in, and when they were, they just told us to play games anyway.
Built a portfolio on SourceForge, and linked to my snippets/tutorials here in my covering letter.
After about 6 weeks of non-stop searching for a job in IT, I got a job developing database software in FoxPro.
Granted it's not the most interesting of languages, but it's a start. Once you've got the commercial experience, others are interested.

I answered WITH a Bachelor's, but it happens to be in a completely unrelated field (in which I've never actually worked).

Have a bachelors in a traditionally computer phobic technical field (Mechanical Engineering), work in a programming intensive, but off the beaten path, corner of that field (signal processing),
So do I use my BS for programming? Yes, but only because I happen to fall into a weird intersection set.

A degree is like a club pass, it gets you in the door. Hopefully it also prepares you somewhat for when you get there, but who knows.
I have a degree in English Lit ( BA or BS, I honestly forget, Lib Arts can choose ). Got a minor in CompSci. My first job was boy friday. That is, office bitch for a consulting company. Eventually I got a job as a programmer. No one even asked if I had a degree. Experience beats class time, every time.
