What's going on?

What's going on? Why are there so many people who want to hurt others? With all that black magic and witchcraft books out there, plus online resources... Aren't there any people left, who believe in God, be it Christ, Krishna, Buddha, or Allah?

Hi!
I think there are a lot religious people out there..
I guess much happens only because of envy and racialism..
That really really sucks, but thats the way the human are..
still hoping for a better world..

Firstly, let me preface this with the fact that I am a Christian, and be aware that I use that term loosely as I don't consider myself to be what most people in this country/world consider Christians to be. But I think one of the major problems with 'evil' in the world stems from those who believe in 'God' so strongly to the point of believing their way is the only possible way to get to their end point. These types of people will do anything within their power to further their chosen 'religion' (which at its core, Christianity is not). Christians for centuries have slaughtered those of other religions because they took to extreme fanaticism. The same has happened with each of the other religions as well. Balance is key, I think. In any case, I'm more than happy to continue this conversation though it may of course be better suited for the Hot Topics forum.

Don't blame the books, blame the readers.
Most "New Age" or occult books are pretty benign. I recently found myself in the "Barnes & Noble" "occult" section and was shocked by all the Christian lit, some Kabalah ( I blame Madonna ), and fallout from Opra's reading list ( "It's a Secret!" ). Where's the Crowley? The LaVey? Where have all the hard core silly Neo-Pagans gone? Never mind, it's probably just me...
Most world religions say all the right things. "Be excellent to each other.", etc. But the followers now... People take whatever agenda or prejudiced they have and give it false credibility by finding scripture to back them up. Opposing views can almost always be backed up by the same books. So, it's the readers.
We rarely hear from the millions of people who quietly follow their faith and try to do the right thing. They're not the ones that shout and carry signs. No, we see the screamers. The fringies, the ones that want to oppress everything that they don't agree with out of fear.
No group should be judged by it's vocal minority.

I'm confused - why is "black magic" and "witchcraft" equivocated, and then that pair made to seem "bad"? Most internet and bookstore black magic books are pretty worthless as far as I am concerned - Baavgai pointed this out as well.
I would first say divorce your assumption that "black magic" and "witchcraft" are the same. Second, just because witchcraft (I'll use the term Pagan) doesn't pray to a single diety does not make them bad or wrong. Nordic god worship is on the rise, and there are plenty First Americans that would disagree with monotheistic worship.
Additionally most of the worshipers of the four you mentioned in your first post have done quite a bit of bloody damage over the years. Hell, as a Catholic I vocalize (after a few rounds) the desire for the inquisition to make a come back and put down a few heathens (Utah and Clearwater Florida I am looking at you!).
As for why people want to hurt people - that's a wide range of answers. I covet what you have, my view trumps your view, my throck is bigger than yours... etc... etc..

edited as I feel that I was a bit harsh.
Hey man, So called magic and Witchcraft isn't to blame.
It is because there are only 2 ways to get a person to do anything. Those are Force and Reason.
Lets take a look at some scenarios
You want some work done, You come to me and offer a price that you want the work done for, we negotiate out a price. The work gets done and we both leave happy and peaceful.
You want some work done, You come to me and put a pistol to my back and say you will do this or I will kill you. The work may get done, but it will just get done enough so that I don't die. And then when you are satisfied, I will hunt you down and kill you with my bare hands if needed or die trying.
People always wonder why some Americans are such strong supporters of the second amendment, It was placed in our constitution so that our government would always have to deal with the citizenry with reason. Because an armed citizenry cannot be governed by force.
Oh and Hey nice to meet you I'm one of those Polytheistic unbelievers that you are talking about. And if you go back through and research my posts I actually save lives instead of destroy them.
LETS GET A TOAST FOR THE MEDICS, HOOOAH

Media Propaganda Brainwashing us again
The world is really a kind place, full of butterflies and rainbows! All the mean stuff you see on T.V is really done in a Hollywood movie set and put out there as entertainment..
Honestly, lack of treatment for mental illness accounts for alot of it
